FILM: Carl Franklin's - "Bless Me, Ultima"

As a kid in middle school 10+ years ago, I remember reading Rudolfo Anaya's "Bless Me, Ultima" and being mesmerized by the tale he presented.

"Bless Me, Ultima" is a novel who's "young protagonist, Antonio Márez y Luna tells the story of his coming-of-age with the guidance of his curandera, mentor, and protector, Ultima. It has become the most widely read and critically acclaimed novel in the Chicano literary canon since its first publication in 1972."

In 2008 "Bless Me, Ultima" was included in the List of Most Commonly Challenged Books in the U.S. My kinda book! ;-)

When I found out Carl Franklin was bringing this book to life on film, I was ecstatic! It's such a necessary and powerful story! It definitely deserves to be documented on film!

Check out the trailer below, and see "Bless Me, Ultima" in a theater near you! That is, if you live in New Mexico! It's currently only playing there, but I'm hopeful that it will see other parts of the country!
