I came across this unedited 'behind the scenes' footage from the upcoming film 'After Earth' starring Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith. Also featured in the film are Sophie Okonedo and Zoe Kravitz as Faia Raige and Senshi Raige, respectively.
As an actor, this kind of stuff REALLY excites me. Seeing how things are created on set, watching how the actors work on set, etc. It's great to see Will working with his children, too. I, personally, am a fan of his work with them.
After Earth (originally known as 1000 A.E.) is an upcoming 2013 Americanscience fictionaction film co-written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan. It stars real-life father and son Will and Jaden Smith as Cypher and Kitai Raige, with the elder also acting as producer and co-writer, and will be distributed by Columbia Pictures and available on IMAX. It is based on an original story idea by Will Smith.
The plot for this sounds dope! And let's face it, how often do we see Black bodies in space or in futuristic societies? And on top of that, a Black father and son? Virtually unseen or unheard of in this industry, so I will definitely be there to support this film when it comes out. I hope you will be too!
In the near future, humanity decides to abandon Earth after numerous cataclysmic events. Human society is re-established on a habitable exoplanet known as Nova Prime outside of our Solar System. Meanwhile, the creatures of Earth continue to evolve, apparently without any human interaction.
Set one thousand years after humanity's resettlement, a peacekeeping organization known as the Ranger Corps is trained by a wise - but stern - General named Cypher Raige. Under his command is a young recruit named Kitai, a rebellious teenager with a knack for mischief. Kitai is also Cypher's son, and the father is frustrated at what he sees to be a lack of discipline.
Cypher's wife, Faia, urges him to see Kitai's behaviour as a longing for his father's love and a plea for attention. At her behest, Cypher takes Kitai on a mission to Earth. The ship is damaged in an asteroid field and crash lands on the planet, killing all but Cypher and Kitai, who are seriously injured in the accident. The two must retrieve an emergency beacon by embarking on a perilous journey across uncharted terrain. Dangerous animal species now dominate the planet, as well as an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash, to signal for help.
