Bruce Weber & David Bailey Team Up With Nokia for Harlem: A Poetry lesson
This is a short I have been meaning to share with you all for a while now, and as they say, there's no time like the present! Harlem: A Poetry lesson, a short film shot primarily on the new Nokia Lumia 1020 by one of the world most renown photographer Bruce Weber; with help from his longtime friend and fellow photographer David Bailey. This is hands down one of the most vibrant and inspiring short film I have seen in a while, partly because it is dedicated to American soul and jazz poet, musician and author, Gil Scott-Heron, my heroes! but also because Bruce Weber and David Bailey captured the authenticity of the historic New York neighbourhood perfectly.
The film chronicles a full day where Weber took friend and fellow photography legend, David Bailey, to his favourite neighbourhood of Harlem to capture the heart and soul of New York’s most vibrant community. Weber said: “One of the best things in the world is to share your life behind the camera with a friend”. The pair were working together for the first time and captured over 1000 images in Harlem on their Nokia Lumia 1020’s, showcasing the phones imaging capabilities in a contextual and truly human way.

The neighbourhood holds a special meaning for Bailey as well: this year marks the 50th anniversary of his seminal shoot of Harlem featuring Jean Shrimpton for Vogue magazine. The images from that shoot transformed fashion editorial for good.
