MUSIC: Tube Trip - A YouTube Journey
I’m sure we can all relate to having lost many a day to YouTube- surfing from the comfort of our beds (or a cold desk somewhere on a Monday between 9 and 5 perhaps?) . The painfully addictive “this was recommended for you” options at the side of the screen always seem to pull me in and spit me out somewhere around the time when my stomach begins to rumble! But it’s not all bad for I’ve run across some real gems on my virtual travels. Let’s take a look at one of my Tube Trips:
1st stop
Bastille ft Ella- No Scrubs
One of my friends at work has made almost a daily ritual of blasting this song out of her speakers. At first the purist in me tried to protest- I mean no one should touch what Lisa and the girls did back then! However, I have found myself quietly listening to the Bastille cover when no one’s been watching. From the atmospheric almost Emile Haynie (Lana Del Rey, Emeli Sande, Kanye) production to the faithful delivery of the lyric with such a laidback approach it’s a little hard to resist. With a UK number 1 album under their belt and their star steady on the rise I reckon there’s a lot more to come. Perhaps a little 702 or Xscape for the next cover? We’ll see…

Rudimental Ft Ella Eyre- Waiting All Night (BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge)
As great as Dan Smith sounds on his bands No Scrubs cover I couldn’t help but want to hear more of the featured singer Ella Eyre. Armed with a gravelly voice and tone for days her recent Rudimental collaboration is a definite highlight on their debut album due for release on April 29th (I’ve heard it- it’s amazing!). Check out Ella and the guys Radio One Live Lounge performance of the single.

3rd Stop
Rudimental Ft Sinead Harnett and MNEK (Live In Session)
Rudimental are fast becoming the go to guys to soundtrack a night out in London. From the Soulful vibes of debut single “Spoons” (featuring TSG favourite MNEK) and the epic UK number one “Feel The Love” they clearly know a thing or two about crafting a killer song. “Baby” is a little more subtle than their previous singles but I’m more intrigued with the featured vocal talent. They’ve brought back MNEK for another collaboration and included the sublime Sinead Harnett. With a quiet confidence running through her silky smooth tone she handles her verse with ease ( starting at 2mins 59). Signed to Black Butter Records, who seem to be have their finger right on the pulse of what’s hot in London, we can expect her debut album/single sometime this year. Check it out.
