PHOTOGRAPHY: Mark Ruwedel Talks to the Tate

SORBELLI_Shay_Fig-8 Filmed at his studio in Los Angeles, American photographer Mark Ruwedel discusses his work Wendover Air Force Base: Nine Bomb Craters, Utah 1999 from the series The Italian Navigator; in which he tracks and documents the development and testing of nuclear bombs throughout the United States.

What draws me most to his work, is Ruwedel's ability to showcase the beauty of such arid and inhospitable landscapes. In regards to photographing landscapes, he states "As a landscape photographer I have come to think of the earth as being an enormous historical archive".
