PHOTOGRAPHY: The Late Gordon Parks

Most famous for his photographic essays in life magazine, Gordon Parks’ photography is a masterful documentation of just that… Life. Even in the images that seem somewhat posed or set-up, I've always felt like I'm watching true moments when I look at Parks' work. I'm also drawn to his ability to capture the vulnerability of his subjects; and it’s this vulnerability, often coupled with sombre countenances, that seem to propel his subjects forward from the background; it’s crazy to see how celebrities in particular seem so naked in his photographs; especially at a time when celebrities were so inaccessible and god-like (no twitter or tmz in sight).
